Way Too Fast!

There have been big things going on in Lauryn's life (and ours!) in the last two weeks.  Last Wednesday she had her preschool Young 5's graduation.  She and her classmates even wore real caps and gowns.  The ceremony was sweet and, of course, I got all choked up.  :)

Then on Saturday, she had her first performance with the Flat River Dance Company, at the Greenville H.S. Performing Arts Center.  It was amazing!  I didn't really know what to expect but the show was so much more than I had anticipated.  Now that she's gone through one semester, and knows what is expected of her, we asked if she wants to do it again in the fall.  She said she really does!  I am already looking forward to the next performance. :)

Even though the Young 5's graduated last Wednesday, tomorrow is their last day.  I'm looking forward to going in the afternoon, to celebrate her last day with her.  On top of everything, Lauryn has her very first loose tooth!  She might be more excited about that than anything else.  :)  My little girl is growing up way too fast!  It makes me a little sad but I'm also thrilled to watch her.

Young 5's

In a couple short weeks, Lauryn will be starting Young 5's at preschool.  This year, she'll be going two half days and one full day.  Her first day is a full day, from 9 am to 3 pm.  It's going to be so weird not having her here all day every day again.  And to have her gone for so long one day a week.  I know I have to get used to it because next year, in kindergarten, she'll be going full days five days a week.  My little girl is growing up so fast!  She's really excited to go back.  I am too!  I will miss her but I know how much she's looking forward to it and I think getting back into that routine will be good for her.  I've tried to keep her busy this summer, with fun projects and play dates, but on days where there isn't much going on, she gets bored and sometimes a little bit naughty.  Also in a couple of weeks, the reading program at the library starts back up.  We had so much fun doing that and it will be fun to get back into it.

Preschool Open House

Last night we had Lauryn's preschool open house.  She'll be in the young fives next year!  Lloyd got home early and we took the kids to Big Boy for dinner.  Lucas was a ham the whole time :)  He was so happy, bopping around in his high chair and Lauryn thought it was cool that she could order pancakes for dinner.  We went to the open house after and Lauryn took us around the whole school and showed us a bunch of pictures that she and her friends had made.  There were tons of pictures up of all the kids playing and learning.  I filled out the registration forms and then we had a nice chat with a few of the teachers.  We met her teacher for next year and Lauryn was really excited to see her new classroom.  It's hard to believe my baby girl is old enough for all of this!

Parent/Teacher Conference

We had our first parent/teacher conference on Valentine's Day.  It was great!  We knew we had a little smarty pants on our hands but it was great to hear some things about Lauryn that we don't get to see.  For starters, we were pretty shocked to learn how reserved and quiet Lauryn is at school.  We figured we hear that she talks too much and might even be a little bossy.  Her teacher said that at first she kept to herself quite a bit, unless other kids were playing on the slide.  She loves the slide and was very friendly with anyone else who wanted to slide too.  She also said that Lauryn is learning how to tell others "no."  There is a little boy who can be a bit too aggressive (with all the kids, not just Lauryn) and she's learning to tell him no when she doesn't want to play.  There is another little boy who is even more quiet and reserved than Lauryn and her teacher said they've become very good friends.  She said that Lauryn helps him open up a little more than he had been.  The thing we heard that I loved the most (and already knew) is that when another kid is sad, her teacher said Lauryn does whatever she can to make them feel better.  She said you can see her eyes darting around, trying to figure out how she can make things better.  My girl has such a good heart!  We saw samples of Lauryn's handwriting from the beginning of the year and saw how far she's come with that.  We knew that too, because she practices with us at home all the time, but it was neat to see the side by side comparison.  I was really pleased with how the conference went and how in depth it really was.  I figured being a preschool conference, it wouldn't have gone into so much detail.  We came home with her first Progress Report and it was filled with positive things about Lauryn.  I am so proud of my sweet girl! :)

It's Going To Be Weird!

I can't believe that in less than a week, we will have a preschooler!  My baby girl is growing up!  I was telling Lloyd that mornings are going to be weird around here while Lauryn is at school.  I've gotten used to her routine of juice and cartoons first thing in the morning and it will be weird to not have that.  I'm going to use the time she's at school to work out.  I figure that's the best time because Lucas is always sleeping then and she won't be here to want to be on the elliptical or help Mama with the Wii fit board, so it's the best time to get a good work out in.  Today and tomorrow  we are going to pick up some school clothes, a car seat for Lloyd's car and maybe a backpack.  I can't believe I'm going school clothes shopping for her!  Just seems crazy!
